Solar Photovoltaic Systems
Same as the solar thermal technology, photovoltaic technology for electricity production is not a new invention. We all used the solar powered calculators and solar digital watches since decades, but this technology has developed drastically in the last years to the extent that makes it suitable for larger domestic and commercial applications. Photovoltaic nowadays is capable of supplying abundant electricity for homes, hotels, offices, and even factories.
In renewable photovoltaic energy systems, there is no “fix” or “standard” model to be chosen or offered. For any site of target, a dedicated holistic study unveiling the energy demands should always precede the design attempts. In fact, solar energy system components can be thought of as LEGO pieces. Knowing that Smart Age offers the highest quality solar products such as Photovoltaic Panels, Batteries, Inverters, Chargers, etc., our engineers choose the required pieces and build them up uniquely for each site to offer the required output.
Photovoltaic systems can be designed in four main topologies: on-grid systems, off-grid systems, combined on-grid/off-grid systems, and hybrid applications. This depends heavily on the application and the country regulations itself.
The On-Grid topology is usually proposed for daytime applications where no batteries are required for night loads, and for countries where minimal utility cutoffs occur. With the on-grid topology, produced solar electricity can be fed in the utility network for KW exchange (net-metering), or even money exchange (Feed-in tariff).
Off-grid topology is mainly implemented in rural areas where utility service and infrastructure are not available. It is highly dependent on storage batteries that should account for night loads and autonomy days of bad weather.
As for the combined on-grid/off-grid systems, it is recommended for countries with continuous utility cutoffs. For these countries, our systems are well designed to overcome the chronic electricity interruptions, by replacing the traditional unpleasant monthly generator subscriptions or even the entire utility supply.
For hybrid systems, we mean that the photovoltaic generator can be coupled and integrated with other generators all in one system, for a synchronized performance and output. Within PV designs, it is possible to integrate diesel generators, wind turbines, biomass engines, etc.
Building Integrated Solar Installations
The beauty of the solar technology from an energy saving point of view, is sometimes counter-faced by aesthetic or space constraints. Since aesthetic beauty is subjective, a lot of architects prefer to maintain the view of their roofs as brick rather than solar. Also, knowing that panels require significant amount of space, many projects are turned down from realization due to this constraint. Therefore, nowadays, the integration of solar systems within the architectural projects is becoming a business industry and a profession by itself.
Smart Age offers extensive methods of Building Integrated Solar Installation concepts that will flow along with the architects' designs, maintaining the main intended panorama, and utilizing smartly all available facades. Of course, sizing calculations should be reconsidered not to affect the expected efficiencies of the installed systems.
